Home to San Jose State University's Spartan Stadium and the Art Department's sculpture and metalwork foundry, the Spartan Keyes neighborhood is a living link to the University and the many historical warehouses that still operate there today. Spartan Keyes' architecture boasts dozens of classic Victorians from the turn of the century, farm houses from the mid-1800's, as well as many post-1906 earthquake Craftsman Style bungalows. Beautiful Victorian gardens grace many of the yards and huge trees line many streets. The Neighborhood Improvement Plan depicts a vision to unify the disparate residential areas of Spartan Keyes into a safer, more livable, and truly unique neighborhood. Key elements to the achievement of this vision include: preserving and enhancing the character of established residential areas, encouraging pedestrian circulation, enhancing the local business district and developing community-oriented open space.
