Five Wounds/Brookwood Terrace

The Five Wounds / Brookwood Terrace area is approximately one mile east of downtown. The area is bounded by Highway 280 to the south, Highway 101 and King Road to the east, and Coyote Creek to the west and north. The area is residential with a mix of single family homes, multifamily dwellings, and small businesses along a light industrial corridor associated with the former Union Pacific Rail road line. The Historic Five Wounds Church serves as the hub of the 90 year old Little Portugal community. The area contains a concentration of Portuguese business and residential areas and is the only one like it in the Western United States.  There are also three significant commercial areas along East Santa Clara Street, Alum Rock Avenue and Julian Street. The area contains some major open space features in local parks along the Coyote Creek.
